Wage Subsidy Programme
With the economy affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO), the announcement of the PERMAI assistance package and the Wage Subsidy Programme has been extended to all companies in states affected by MCO.
A subsidy of RM600 will be given for each staff. However, this subsidy is for 1 month only for existing and new applicants. This would include all employers operating in MCO states regardless of sectors, from just employers in the tourism and retail sector under Budget 2021.
The eligible amount are as follows:
- Current PSU Recipients (Tourism & Retail Sector):
- i. RM600 per employee per month for 3 months
- New Applicants (Tourism & Retail Sector):
- i. RM600 per employee per month for 6 months
- Current PSU Recipients & New Applicants (All economic sectors in MCO States):
- i. RM600 per employee per month for 1 month
Eligibility for WSP:
- Business sales dropped by at least 30% year-on-year (from 2019 to 2020) after the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was implemented.
- Both Employers and employees registered with SOCSO before to 1 January 2021
- Employers registered under SSM or the relevant local authority before to 1 January 2021
- Employees salary earnings: RM4,000 or less
Not Eligible for WSP:
- Business registered or being commenced after 1 January 2020.
- Employers or employee workers that didn’t register with PERKESO.
- Employees who receive Employment Retention Program for the same month.
- Employee’s salary earnings: RM4,000 or more
- Individuals that are unemployed
- Government Server
- Freelancer
- Foreign worker and expatriate
The PERMAI Assistance Package that is worth RM15 billion has been announced by the government. They are focusing on providing a vital support to businesses and the general public that are affected by the lockdown.
The Government has also provided a subsidy rate for the retail and tourism industry. Existing members from the previous WSP 1.0 and WSP 2.0 are given RM600 per month to each employee in their respective company. This would last for 3 months. For the new applicants joining WSP 3.0, they the same amount per month for 6 months.
Next is the payment rate for employers. Existing members and new applicants from all sectors in the states that are involved with PKP are to receive RM600 per month for only a month to each employee of their respective companies.
